Renovating a historic property requires a delicate balance. When we were approached to revitalise a tired and dated kitchen at Pike Hall, we knew the design had to respect the building’s rich heritage while meeting the functional demands of modern living.

Our goal was to craft a space that felt entirely natural—a kitchen that looked as though it had always belonged, rather than a brand-new showroom installation.

We began by completely reevaluating the spatial layout to ensure the room truly worked for our clients.

By meticulously planning the workflow, we remodelled the entire space to harmonise around a beautiful new AGA range cooker, anchoring the room in classic country elegance.

Pike Hall boasts magnificent original beamed ceilings. While these architectural features are full of character, they can sometimes make a room feel enclosed.

To combat the lower ceiling height, we employed a strategic colour palette using paints from the Little Greene Paint Company.

The Cabinets

We grounded the space by painting the lower cabinetry in the rich, earthy tones of Pompeian Ash. The bottom cabinets are also painted in Pompeian Ash with the top cabinets and island painted in Slaked Lime Mid by Little Greene Paint co. Due to lower ceilings, we wanted to make the room appear taller by keeping light colours to the top.

By keeping these lighter, airy colours near the top of the room, we successfully drew the eye upward, creating a brilliant illusion of height and spaciousness that beautifully complements the historic beams overhead.

When it comes to work surfaces, finding the perfect marriage of luxury and practicality is essential.

For Pike Hall, we selected Taj Mahal natural quartzite. This magnificent stone offers the delicate, light appearance that our clients desired, whilst providing incredible durability.

It effortlessly withstands the daily rigours of a busy kitchen, making it a highly practical alternative to more porous natural stones without sacrificing an ounce of elegance.

At Brownlow, we take immense pride in supporting and championing British brands wherever possible. To complement our bespoke cabinetry, we specified premium fixtures from renowned English makers.

The elegant cabinet handles are crafted by Armac Martin, while the traditional farmhouse sink is by Shaws.

To complete the wet zone, we installed a boiling Quooker tap by Perrin & Rowe. Together, these elements reinforce the classic, enduring aesthetic of the hall.

Bespoke Storage

A truly bespoke kitchen must function flawlessly behind closed doors.

At Pike Hall, we integrated an array of custom storage solutions designed to keep the worktops clear and the cooking process seamless.

Hidden behind our traditional cabinetry, you will find:

  • Custom Door Racks
  • Integrated Knife Blocks
  • Deep Pan and Crockery Drawers
  • Spice Drawers
  • Aerated Vegetable Pull-Outs

The Result

The transformation at Pike Hall perfectly illustrates how thoughtful spatial planning, strategic colour choices, and an uncompromising dedication to quality can completely revive a historic space.
